180-day phase-in is over: the 2022 OFC was usable for new-construction plan review through Mar 31, 2026. The OFC is amended by the State Fire Marshal. The 2025 OSSC separately carries the 2024 IFC new-construction provisions.

Exceptions

  • The State Fire Marshal may exempt a local government that has adopted adequate fire regulations generally conforming to state and national standards (ORS 476.030(3)).
  • A fire district may adopt a fire prevention code with provisions in addition to the base Oregon Fire Code (ORS 476.117(2)).

How Oregon adopts the IFC

  • Agency rule

The State Fire Marshal amends OAR 837-040-0010 under ORS 476.030 to adopt each Oregon Fire Code edition, generally every three years to coincide with a national fire code; ORS 476.117 requires OSFM to adopt the base Oregon Fire Code. No legislative approval step was found.

Cycle. Triennial, following the IFC cycle; rule history shows OFC editions effective Nov 15, 2019, Oct 1, 2022, and Oct 1, 2025.

Evidence 8 sources

Sources for the record itself come first, the state’s own records ahead of others. A label marks a source about something else, such as an exception. A source marked secondary is not the state’s own record.
