The 2021 International Fire Code (IFC) has been in force in Ohio since Nov 20, 2025. It applies statewide. Adopted by Ohio State Fire Marshal (Division of State Fire Marshal, Department of Commerce). The legal citation is OAC 1301:7-7-01 et seq.; ORC 3737.82.

Chapters 1-11 and 20-80 from 2021 IFC; Chapter 12 (energy systems) from 2024 IFC. Replaced the prior OFC whose last effective date was Jan 5, 2019.
How Ohio adopts the IFC
ORC 3737.82 directs the fire marshal to adopt a state fire code and lets the marshal incorporate published standards by reference. The marshal adopts rules through hearing and JCARR filing; no statute names an IFC edition.
