Rule development opened in 2025. The State Fire Marshal noticed a proposed-rule hearing for Jul 14, 2026 (Microsoft Teams) and lists a proposed effective date of Dec 31, 2026. The SFM’s development plan names the 2024 NFPA 1 and 101 as the base.
How Florida adopts the IFC
The State Fire Marshal adopts the Florida Fire Prevention Code by rule under Chapter 120 and must adopt a new edition every third year, adopting the current editions of NFPA 1 and NFPA 101 (s. 633.202(1), (2)). Each cycle runs through rule development, advisory-council meetings and a proposed-rule hearing noticed in the Florida Administrative Register; local governments may only strengthen the code (s. 633.202(7)). No separate legislative approval step was found.
Cycle. Triennial by statute (s. 633.202(1)); 8th Edition effective Dec 31, 2023, 9th Edition proposed for Dec 31, 2026.
